2008-Oct: Our First Travel Adventure @ Tokyo Part II

Day 02 - 04 Highlights: Shibuya, Tokyo Tower, Akihabara, Nikko Waterfalls & Disneyland

View from the hotel room, cloudy again

I dunno if we are still having a handover from the exhausting wedding day preparations, or we are simply lazy creatures, we woke up really late on Day 02 and even missed the timing for our breakfast buffet at our hotel.
We consoled ourselves by saying that we dun really want to eat american food again. :P

Wake up!!!!

Anyway we proceed to plan the route for the day, which is a trip to Disneyland. From an excellent website, you can key in the station which you will like to stop and it will churn out many different kind of route you can take and how much it will cost.

As our hotel is in Shinjuku, which is like City Hall MRT, we are connected to almost every line so it is really convenient for us.
Due to our adventurous spirit, we decide to check it out another entrance of the station instead of the one we took from Day 01. As a result of phototaking and checking out the various stuff in our surrounding, we reached Yoyogi station instead, which is one stop away from Shinjuku station.

That's when we made a mistake and boarded the wrrrrong train. :P
At first we didn't realize it was wrong as we were busy admiring the old school looking trains of the JR Train Line. Then as I studied the map of the train system, we realized we are on the wrong line!!!!

We quickly got out of the train and asked a stranger (by pointing at the map) how to go to Disney land from where we were. The directions sounded complicated and just then it began to rain heavily.
We made an easy decision - postpone Disneyland Trip to another day.
Having no planning of the route with me except for the trip to Disneyland, we begin to brainstorm the places we are planning to visit which is near to where we are.

It didn't take us long to choose to go to Shibuya as it was only 1-2 stops away.

Huge Coke Cans at Shibuya. Dunno why Coke tastes nicer there.

Indeed Shibuya was a happening place. Lots of people despite the rain.

Photobucket
It's lunchtime and we were famished so FINALLY we went to a sushi restaurant to try out a real Japanese cuisine.

Poor me,.. I can't take raw food, which means sushi is out of the question for me. But because of my deep love for my hubby, I persuaded him to enter the restaurant, saying that I can surely find food I can eat somehow.

I was almost wrong. This restaurant is really all about sushi and raaawww sushi.
As I explained in english that I will want to have something cooked, the waitress looked stunned for a moment and then quickly get another waitress who can speak in English...... a bit that is!

In the end we managed to find grilled fish with rice. It tastes good! So do the sushi... but we know surely there are better food out there... =p

After the meal, we shopped a little while and found interesting slot machines with really cute toys (which I bought some of the souvenirs from)

A Shot my Hubby likes alot...lol

Next stop we went to Tokyo Tower, which according to some website, is one of the best places to visit.
Being more kiasee this time, we asked people around us again on the train station on the directions to Tokyo Tower.

We soon reached Tokyo Tower station in which we can see the Tower from afar. But it is still a good 15-20min walk from the station.
Being exceptionally sporting and adventurous, we decided to walk instead of hailing a cab there. We passed by many interesting restaurants on our way there, but due to fears of the Tower closing, we bypassed them and continue to walk to the Tower. :(

View from the Tower

Upon reaching the Tower, it was quite a beautiful sight, with red as the main color. But I can't help but to think that this is a copy from Paris' Effiel Tower, despite claims being taller than the latter.

Anyway we bought the tickets to go all the way up. The elevators I must admit are a little scary.
Upon reaching the peak, there's nothing much to do except to start taking pictures.
There's a cafe on the way up which has live band singing till 9pm which was rather cool. Imagine going on a date and sipping coffee there whilst admiring the nightlife scenery.

Well being rather practical and short for time, we decided to go to our next destination for the day: The ever famous Akihabara street, famous for electronics
This time we took a cab... hee... and it costs about SGD30. So far so good.

When we reached we were amazed because there are many many malls selling electronics. From ipods to cameras to PS3 to xbox... indeed this is a haven for electronic fans.

They also sell many interesting toy models from which I bought the souvenirs for my cg. It is really quite affordable shopping experience (for toys that is)
The electronics there are not really cheaper therefore we didn't get any.

We ended off the day at a restaurant at Akihabara, which requires us to order our food at a slot machine and pay first, before passing the coupons to the waitress.
It was rather interesting as there are no English words and only some foods are featured with pictures on them. As there was a queue waiting, we quickly anyhow select and waited in anticipation for our food.

Photobucket
It turns out we ordered an Ebi Bento, which is fried prawns with rice. We accidentally added an Udon soup and it was really quite nice. The price once again was very reasonable.
Photobucket

As we are carrying alot of shopping items, we decided to hail a cab back to the hotel instead, as Akihabara is quite near Shinjuku. We were right and in no time we reached our hotel and begin to rest and plan for our itinerary for the next day.

The rest trip is actually an one day guided tour to the Nikko Falls, just outskirts of Tokyo. Journey took approx 1h 30min.

Photobucket
Woofy being curious
Conclusion of the tour: We saw some heritage thingy like temples and waterfall but it wasnt really our cup of tea. The lunch included in the tour was good, being Japanese and all but the rest of the tour is just so so for us.
Free and easy is still the way to go for us man!

Anyway before going to talk about the best place on earth (disneyland), here are some pictures from the guided tour trip.

Upon reaching Shinjuku, we went to Shinjuku street to shop at the Yodabashi Camera. It was a busy street and was quite happening till 11pm. And there are many many restaurants!!!
We picked one which looks inviting and we had a really great meal over there.
Photobucket
Still mouth-watering at the thought.

And now the moment you have been waiting for..................... pictures of TOKYO DISNEYLAND!!

I have been to Disneyland (Paris, LA) before when I was younger and the fond memories of the place still intrigues me a lot. It is the first time for my hubby though and I must say we were simply awkstrucked by the entire place.
It is a photographer's paradise and everything is so nice and pretty.

Well people will not enjoy waiting for the rides, most rides need you to wait approx 1h and some 2h!!! But since we are not there for the rides (we only took 1, which only takes us 20min to queue), we enjoyed the scenary, the parade (very nice), the great service, the great food and last but not least...the merchandise!!!

We bought alot alot of souvenirs from Tokyo Disneyland we regret now not buying more. Everything is so special and pretty and best of all it is quite affordable to our surprise.

Without further ado... presenting you... Tokyo Disneyland (photos not arranged in order of visitation)

Good nights!!!!!
It was a loooong day and we packed our luggage for our next hotel at Hakone.
Hakone is a small town near Tokyo and is one of the best places to visit Mt. Fuji (which sadly to say we didn't get to see because of the cloudy weather... but good excuse to come back again!)
Reason for this shift
1) Supposed to visit Mt. Fuji
2) No hotel rooms in Tokyo available for booking for that day (considering we only booked our honeymoon less than 2 weeks prior to trip...understandable)
Cost of Room each night? A freaking SGD800!!!! So expensive O___O
But can book a personal hot spring at their premises, which is quite an interesting experience.
More about Hakone and the rest of the trip next entry.
Remember: Japan is a greaaaaat place for holiday! :D
